Bio
Exploding Schoolgirls is the primary solo project of Nick Wilson. The project began in 2005. Musically and lyrically, the project is pretty much a free-for-all, enabling a certain level of musical schizophrenia and genre dysphoria. Experimental pop is the easiest category to label it with, and influences range from the Beatles to C86 to Beefheart to Family Fodder.

Like Carrot Eaters, the roots of Exploding Schoolgirls lie in the failed 2005 project "Paper Hat Is Born", an attempted compilation of 12 "bands" with different sounds all played by Wilson and Garrett Johnson. While Exploding Schoolgirls was not conceived as a band name until after the project was scrapped, the aesthetic of "Paper Hat is Born" lives on in Exploding Schoolgirls, by refusing to confine itself to an one easily definable sound or influence. Also, three tracks from the "Paper Hat is Born" project became Exploding Schoolgirls tracks: "Her Love", "Non-Reflecting Mirror", and "Burial at Sea."

These tracks were finished for what was supposed to be the first Exploding Schoolgirls album, entitled "Feast of Excited Insects." Recorded over the course of 2005 and 2006 and comprised of 18 tracks of polyrhythmic, home-recorded experimental pop, the album was never completed for release.

Instead of finishing the album, Wilson decided to scrap the whole thing and redo it completely. From summer 2007 to summer 2008, Wilson has been composing a far more ambitious "Feast of Excited Insects." The album will have 35 to 50 short pop and experimental songs, spanning a huge array of styles and influences. The album is mostly recorded, but is now in the process of mixing, embellishing, re-recording, etc. The tracks presented above are incomplete. We are hoping for its release in fall or winter 2008.

The original version, which has completely different songs, will likely be released at some point down the road under the working title "The Antiquated World Of Exploding Schoolgirls", as will a collection of outtakes and rarities from "Feast of Excited Insects" entitled "Steak and Bubblegum." Also, Wilson has begun composition for the next, as yet untitled Exploding Schoolgirls release.
